Sarjubhai (Sarj) Patel is a seasoned researcher with over 30 years of experience in neuropharmacology, molecular and cellular biology, and biochemical assay development. His research has primarily focused on understanding the role of amino acid transporter proteins in the central nervous system (CNS) in human health and disease.
Throughout his career, Sarj has led numerous highly collaborative multidisciplinary research programs, resulting in the pharmacological characterization of these proteins and the development of novel inhibitors and allosteric modulators as potential therapeutic candidates. He has also explored the regulation of expression of this class of proteins as a potential method of therapeutic intervention in neurological diseases.
These discoveries inspired him to explore the potential transformation of this research into cutting-edge innovative technologies to revolutionize the way we diagnose and monitor neurodegenerative disorders such as glioblastoma, ALS, addiction, concussion, and traumatic brain injury (TBI). In 2016, he co-founded FYR Diagnostics, leveraging his considerable experience to establish and grow the company.
Sarj holds a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Montana and a Master’s degree in Neuroscience from the Institute of Psychiatry, KCL. He completed postdoctoral training in the Department of Neurology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and serves as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Montana. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications and holds several patents.
When he is away from FYR, Sarj enjoys exploring Montana and traveling with his family. He is an avid fan of Liverpool FC and loves watching his daughter play football.
